I’ve created and am in the process of setting up a Facebook page for DC – Baltimore Street Photography. I NEED PHOTOS!! Please send me your photos. I’d like to have photos on the page other than mine. I’ll add copyright data and credits to the photos.

The page is BLANK as of today but I’ll be adding content and pictures this week.

Although not technically “Street Photography” a PhotoWalk is a social gathering of photographers who walk as a group and photograph along the walk’s route. Kelby’s photowalk has worldwide participation. Last year (2011) there were over 1000 walks with over 28,000 participants. Most walks last approximately 2 hours and the photographers gather at a local eatery afterwards. Local participating photographers can upload their photos for a competition and prizes are awarded.

The photowalk will be held on Saturday, 2012 October 13 at locations worldwide. Additional information and registration is on Scott Kelby’s Photowalk website.

Local DC – Virginia – Maryland walks of as this posting are:

Alexandria
Annapolis
Baltimore (2)
Frederick
Leesburg
Manassas (2)
Rockville
Vienna (2)
Washington, DC (2)

I’m sure other walks will be added to the growing list. If you’re interested in being a walk leader check out the website.

Don’t forget the FAQ section of the photowalks site.

The Japanese surrendered 1945 August 14 ending WWII and during the cleberation in Times Square Life Magazine Photographer, Alfred Eisenstaedt,  snapped a photo of a sailor (George Mendonsa) kissing a nurse (Greta Friedman). This photo became one of the most iconic American photos of the 20th century. The photo became know simply as “The Kiss”.

The Sailor and the Nurse were reunited 2012 August 11 on CBS This Morning. Lawrence Verrria and George Gladorisi recently published a book,The Kissing Sailor: The Mystery Behind the Photo That Ended World War II, detailing the story of the photo and of the Greta and George.
